NASHVILLE
SELECTS LINK2GOV TO BUILD CITY'S WEB PORTAL
CONTRACT
HIGHLIGHTS PARTNERSHIP WITH MICROSOFT TO DELIVER 24x7
CITIZEN SERVICES
NASHVILLE,
Tenn., DEC. 14, 2000 -- Link2Gov today announced the company
was awarded a contract to build a comprehensive website
for Metro Nashville and Davidson County. The new website,
also known as a "portal" for the array of services it
offers and as a gateway to the Internet, will provide
Nashville and Davidson County citizens access to a variety
of government services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Link2Gov,
based in Nashville, will design the site in partnership
with Microsoft Corp., which will provide supporting infrastructure
technology. The Microsoft-Link2Gov partnership will result
in a sophisticated website that provides a powerful tool
for citizens to more easily interact and communicate with
various city departments and their employees. Link2Gov
will also build a city Intranet that will facilitate the
exchange of documents, ideas and information between city
employees.
"As
the 54th most wired city in the United States, Metro Nashville
is ready to have a world-class government web site. Our
goal is to make it as easy as possible for Nashvillians
to interact with their government through this site,"
said Ed Braswell, executive vice president of Link2Gov.
"The Intranet is also critical to helping Metro government
become more efficient. The goal is to greatly reduce traditional
'paper-pushing' between employees by having them use the
Intranet as a communications and workflow tool."
Link2Gov
will begin development on Metro's site in the next several
weeks. The development will be a joint effort between
the city and Link2Gov, along with input from citizens.
"Metro
Nashville government is very excited to be entering into
a strategic alliance with Link2Gov as we begin to rebuild
our Internet and Intranet web sites to meet the challenges
and opportunities of e-government," said Richard McKinney,
Metro Nashville's director of information services. "Not
only is Link2Gov one the nationally recognized leaders
in this field, they are a Nashville-based company we are
proud to be associated with."
As
an added benefit to the process, Link2Gov will also partner
with Microsoft to develop the Metro Internet/Intranet
site, leveraging many of the concepts detailed in Microsoft's
Government Portal Framework. The Government Portal Framework
provides a technology foundation to implement electronic
government solutions using a consistent set of development
tools to manage portals like the one Link2Gov will build
for Nashville. Link2Gov is an early adopter of this program.
"We're looking forward to partnering not only with Link2Gov,
but also with the citizens of Nashville on the city's
new website," said Pete Hayes, Vice President, Microsoft
Government. "Link2Gov is a mature partner in this space
and we're confident their leading-edge tools will provide
this city with world-class online government services."
