FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gallagher Annouces Online
Application for Insurance Agent License
TALLAHASSEE—Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner
Tom Gallagher today announced a new online system for
applying for an agent license from the convenience of
a home or office computer. The system will be an easier
and faster way for prospective agents to apply for any
of the more than 130 available licenses.
"An individual will now be able to fill out an
application for a license using the internet and transmit
it directly to the Department," Gallagher said.
"This new system will save in paperwork, processing
time, and can potentially reduce the costs for applicants."
To access the online application, log on to www.doi.state.fl.us
and click on the link on the bottom of the page.
As a time and cost-saving measure, the program will
flash an alert, and stop the application process, if
at any point an applicant is deemed ineligible for the
license requested. Previously, an applicant was required
to mail an application along with a non-refundable $50
processing fee to the Department for review. In the
past, if the applicant was found to be ineligible, notification
was provided that another application must be submitted
when requirements were met. This required the individual
to pay another fee to obtain the license. With the new
online system, an applicant is charged a fee only if
he or she is qualified to receive the license. In addition,
this fee can now be paid online by credit card for a
small convenience charge.
Once the online application is complete, the applicant
will be asked to forward supporting documents to the
Department. When these are received, an authorization
letter will be sent to the applicant who will then schedule
an examination date, if required, with a local testing
and license issuance provider and/or report for a photograph
to be printed on the license. When an examination is
required, the license can be awarded at the testing
center on the same day the examination is passed.
This program can be used to apply for all types of licenses
offered by the Department which include agent, agency,
adjuster, firm, bail bond and customer representative.
Individuals already licensed may also use this system
to apply for an additional license, duplicate license,
re-examination or make a name or address change.
