Electronically Prepare and File Taxes with Intuit and
Yahoo! Finance; New Relationship with Link2Gov Corp.
Provides Another Resource to Securely Pay Taxes Online
Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global Internet
company, is once again offering consumers the Yahoo!(R)
Finance Tax Center (http://taxes.yahoo.com),
a comprehensive resource designed to give consumers
all the tools and resources they need to complete, file
and pay their 2002 tax returns via the Internet. Better
than ever, with a new online tax payment option from
LINK2GOV and additional Quicken(R) TurboTax(R) for the
Web(SM) products from Intuit, the Yahoo! Finance Tax
Center allows taxpayers to access relevant tax forms
and explore a wealth of tax information, education and
tips from the most reputable names in tax and finance.
Filing taxes online is becoming a popular solution
for consumers looking to minimize the time investment
and confusion often associated with the annual tax ritual,
and the Yahoo! Finance Tax Center is the ultimate online
destination for people looking to file and pay taxes
in a safe, secure and efficient manner. According to
the Internal Revenue Service, almost 47 million Americans
chose to file electronically in 2002, a 16 percent increase
over 2001. The IRS expects approximately 54 million
taxpayers to e-file in 2003.
"Every year, more and more consumers are realizing
how quick, simple and secure it can be to file taxes
online," said Wade Lagrone, director of production,
Yahoo! Finance. "Our Intuit and LINK2GOV offerings,
combined with Yahoo! Finance content, calculators, forms
and preparation, make the Yahoo! Finance Tax Center
the one-stop shop for consumers wanting to prepare,
file and pay taxes, instantly."
Pay Your Taxes Online -- Instantly!
New to the Yahoo! Finance Tax Center in 2003 is LINK2GOV,
a provider of advanced e-Government technology solutions
and electronic payment processing. LINK2GOV has been
contracted by the IRS to provide electronic payment
services for individual federal income tax payments,
allowing users to remit tax liabilities quickly and
securely. The Yahoo! Finance Tax Center offers access
to LINK2GOV's online tax payment product 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. Payments corresponding to Forms
1040 (current year balance due and past due), 4868 (extension)
and 1040-ES will be accepted; individuals can use the
American Express Card, VISA, Discover Card or MasterCard
to pay their taxes and the convenience fee for use of
the LINK2GOV service.
"LINK2GOV is delighted to offer taxpayers access
to our online tax payment services via the Yahoo! Finance
Tax Center," said Tom Tarver, president of LINK2GOV.
"This will ensure that our highly secured payment
services can now be accessed by millions of taxpayers
in conjunction with the other great tax service options
available through Yahoo!"
The Easy Way to File
For quick, convenient filing of both simple and complex
tax returns, the Yahoo! Finance Tax Center offers access
to the Quicken(R) TurboTax(R) for the Web(SM) service,
which enables taxpayers to prepare and submit their
tax return electronically to the IRS for a nominal fee.
Intuit's desktop tax software will also be available
for purchase through the Yahoo! Finance Tax Center.
TurboTax for the Web asks users to answer a series
of easy-to-understand questions, then automatically
completes required IRS tax forms and double checks for
errors and missed deductions. Intuit's TurboTax for
the Web 1040EZ, Basic and Deluxe services are once again
available, as well as two new products: TurboTax for
the Web Premier, which includes strategies to maximize
savings, tax-cutting investment tools, help with rental
properties and tips for retirement planning; and TurboTax
for the Web Premier Home and Business, which provides
everything you're likely to need for personal and business
taxes, including help with depreciation, tips for home
office deductions, tools on estimating quarterly taxes
and advice on business expenses.
Online filing with TurboTax for the Web also speeds
up the refund process. Taxpayers who electronically
file and request direct deposit of their refund may
receive it in as few as 10 days, twice as fast as filing
by mail. Consumers can get their refund amount even
faster by applying for a Quick Cash loan through TurboTax,
where they can receive a loan against their federal
refund amount in as little as two to three days from
the IRS acceptance of the return. If a taxpayer owes
money to the IRS, TurboTax for the Web offers the option
to pay any taxes due with a Discover Card or using direct
debit. If the taxpayer chooses not to file electronically
but would prefer to print and mail their return and
payment to the IRS, TurboTax for the Web will walk them
through the simple IRS form required to submit payment
via U.S. Mail.
A Taxing Time Made Simple
The Yahoo! Finance Tax Center provides a complete set
of tax resources in one convenient location. Consumers
can print out federal and state tax forms, access IRS
instruction booklets, get easy-to-understand guidance
on hundreds of tax-related topics, refer to important
IRS deadlines on the Tax Calendar, and discuss relevant
tax issues with other taxpayers on Yahoo!'s active message
boards. The Tax Center also offers a variety of tips
on tax topics, ranging from dealing with capital gains
to filing for an extension.
Taxpayers can check out the Tax Guide for Investors,
provided by Fairmark Press, or refer to materials provided
by reputable tax resources including Intuit and Bankrate.com.
Consumers can browse through a variety of state profiles
that include in-depth information on the tax standards
of each individual state. Additionally, the Yahoo! Finance
Tax Center provides users with local listings of tax
preparers and accountants from Yahoo! Yellow Pages (http://yp.yahoo.com),
as well as the ability to purchase tax software and
relevant books on Yahoo! Shopping (http://shopping.yahoo.com).
